Friends,

I’ve made the decision to start winding down my use of social media and I wanted to let you know why, what I’ll be doing instead and how we can stay in touch.

THE WHY

For much of this year, I’ve been thinking a lot about what’s important to me and at the very core of my values. As the second anniversary of my friend’s passing arrived at the beginning of last month, this question grew louder and louder.

What do I want to do with this one precious life of mine? What do I want to create and how do I want to feel?

I want to place my most valuable resources (my time, energy and my attention), towards things that will make a difference. I want to adopt the practice of less, but better in more areas of my life and create high quality content that builds real connection.

Instead of spending 80% of my content creating efforts reaching 3% of my audience on SM, I’ll be redistributing that effort to where I reach 65% of my audience (my awesome email subscribers) and at a much calmer and more sustainable pace for all of us.

Their relationship and trust are what deserves to be rewarded with my contribution, not a platform that holds us captive to an algorithm, in a state of dopamine addiction and forced to operate at an ever-increasing cadence. *Insert any number of studies that show the detrimental effects of this on our mental health, our nervous systems and our quality of life.

I feel this is particularly true if you use SM to market a business and as someone who is also healing chronic illness, I’m ready for the trade-off.

WHAT I’M DOING INSTEAD

My plan is to use the time I reclaim in this experiment to produce more valuable content for you around my values of craftivism, intentional living and sustainable craft. I want to talk more about conscious consuming and what it’s like to build a circular economy business. I’ll also be sharing more of my day-to-day adventures as I attempt a low spend 2025, and sew a handmade capsule wardrobe.

Over the next month, I’ll be creating a static 9 Grid over on IG that will give an overall idea of what I do, how I do it and how people can connect with me. I’ll be archiving all of my old content and for a little while at least, as I transition off of SM, you’ll see the occasional story about upcoming workshops and invitations to join my email newsletter.

Similarly, here on FB you can expect to see FB events for our autumn / winter term of workshops and posts inviting you to join my newsletter, but for the foreseeable future, I will no longer be sharing other types of content here.

HOW TO STAY IN TOUCH

You guessed it. By joining my newsletter.

I’ve been sending a fortnightly newsletter for most of this year and in removing all the other distractions and reclaiming my time, I hope to make it an even richer and more valuable experience for you.

An algorithm free friendship with meaningful content, consumed at your leisure.

I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting my small business. From the very beginnings of our renovation journey back in 2022, through to our last workshop of 2024 on Saturday, you’ve made my dreams come true.

I hope to see you in your inbox soon.
