hand forged shawl

This hand forged shawl pin class is another in the silversmithing series taught by local artist Frankie Barloc. You don’t need any prior experience in jewellery making or silversmithing for this class.

During this workshop, you will learn how to turn a piece of wire into a hat and/or shawl pin.Β  Using just simple tools found in most sheds and perhaps some largish beads or buttons from your craft stash, Frankie will show you how to form and forge base metal wire into the shapes that form a simple loop and pin that will hold your shawls and scarves firmly in place.

These pins are suitable for most loose weave fabrics.

You will learn:

  • A little history of these style of pins
  • Alternative tools that can be used
  • Forming and forging methods using wire
  • Some decorative ideas
