Our Story

The Maker’s Corner was established as a fabric, fibre and creative workshop space in April 2023. It’s located inside a 1940’s commercial building, that’s been lovingly renovated by me (Sarah) and my husband Neil into an off-grid creative hub.

We’ve done our very best to make this space as accessible as possible, acknowledging that not all needs or disabilities are visible.

• We have a ramp at our front door
• Our shop layout, workshop room, counter tops and most of the fabric are wheelchair accessible
• We have an ambulant bathroom for wheelchair access
• We offer a low sensory experience with natural / soft lighting and ambient music
• We use 100% natural non commercial cleaning supplies and do not use scented candles, sprays or other synthetic products

As well as running The Maker’s Corner, an off-grid fabric shop and creative workshop space, I’ve spent the last 5 years working with other conscious creatives, to start and grow their business without compromising their values.

I believe…

our creativity is a powerful form of activism against consumer culture and the attention economy, and that we can use it to build a more regenerative future for us all.

• The Maker’s Corner is an off grid shop that sells rescued, reclaimed and surplus fabric
• Our workshops promote zero waste and sustainable craft and are focused on building stronger community sufficiency
• I work closely with our suppliers to bring you ethically made and sustainably sourced products
• I use feminist and consent based marketing strategies
• I’ve implemented an anti-capitalist business model and circular economy
• I’m learning to make my own clothes to reduce my role in the detrimental effects of fast fashion (subscribe to my YouTube channel to follow those adventures)
• I work with other creatives to start and grow businesses that make a difference

Cindy Vogels

From Lady Gaga to country’s fastest rising music stars, Australian fashion innovator and designer, Cindy Vogels, dresses the music with a difference.

Cindy’s strong, obscure, beautiful costumery features on screens, stages and red carpets across the world. Cindy learnt all aspects of clothing manufacturing from a young age via the family business and grew into a wildly capable designer by high school, then onto TAFE studies to refine professional practice.

‘Tuesday’s at the Maker’s Corner feels like the perfect fit for my skills and desire to connect with my creative community. I adore Sarah’s vision and environmental ethics for less waste and considered purchases’.
